In our young lives we experience interactions with other people that shape what we eventually believe is right or wrong. Our behavior, feelings, and thoughts, were all evaluated and judged by others and eventually by ourselves to be good or bad. As adolescents and adults we formed attributes that we believed both we and others should think, feel, and behave. Therapy helps us to look at these actions, beliefs, and thoughts about ourselves and others in a different way. We do this with understanding, acceptance, and love.
I believe that change comes about through an understanding of one's relationship to oneself and to others. Our unrelenting "critical self" can be looked at with curiosity and eventual understanding of how it has affected us and continues to torment us in the present. There is a tone of acceptance and knowledge that we are all human, and mistakes and regrets can be considered and accepted in a non-judgmental, caring, and safe environment.
I received my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Columbia University. I am a licensed psychologist in both PA and NY. My experience has emphasized treating adults, couples, and adolescents with problems related to eating disorders, trauma (physical, emotional, and sexual), depression, grief, and relationship disorders.
My goal in therapy is to help people enrich their lives. Not only is therapy a healing process, but also, it is an acceptance of oneself - in one's entirety. I help people have more satisfying relationships, encourage self-growth, and a sense of personal freedom and control of their own lives.
